Chantilly, VA (Grassroots NewsWire) January 12, 2009 - Bankers Life
and Casualty Company's Chantilly, Virginia branch sales office brightened the
holidays for residents of the Loudoun Emergency Homeless Shelter by delivering
two carloads of presents just in time for Christmas.
Scott Parks, Branch Sales Manager of Bankers' Chantilly office and
his 60 sales agents and employees joined together to make the gift giving
possible. He credits his office administrators, Lindy Funk-McNickel, Lisa
Caviness, and Veronica Pinedo with the idea, which resulted in the donation of
new toys, clothes, food, paper products, gift cards and other items, to the
shelter.
"We were pleased to be able to help out," said Parks. "It was a
powerful experience to share what we have with families in need. It made us
realize just how fortunate we are."
The shelter, located in Leesburg, Virginia, houses up to 24
residents, many of them children. Helen Richardson, Shelter Director was
grateful for the gifts. "Their generosity made it possible for our residents
and their children to have presents to open on Christmas morning, something
that many of us take for granted."
Parks' Chantilly office also donated turkey dinners, with all the
trimmings, for the shelter's residents on New Year's Eve. They're planning to
return to the shelter in a few months, this time to donate their time for a
spring cleanup.
